Teens..
Having the amount of kiddies I do, you need to have a routine. So in this household, that is exactly what I have tried to do with my children. Not always successful I admit, but all the same there is a little structure to things that happen. That is until you get a Teen in the house.
My eldest hit teen years, and for a little while he rebelled. He wasn't rude or disrespectable, (thankfully), but he got with some "rough" friends. And for a while decided that their company was better. By the time he turned 15, he had settled down again. We returned to some "normality" and at 16 my eldest was responsible again.
I have now hit the "teen years" again with son number 2. He, though, is causing major heartache. From the age of 11 he has started a slow downward slide (He is 14 now). Resulting in last year being excluded from a very good school.
We have battled with him constantly. At first, he would "try" and follow things he was being told. We tried the compramise route with him on things like time to come home and punishments when he knew that he had done stuff wrong. Then he got sent to a "pupil referral unit" to replace his schooling.
Mixing with other "bad lads" has had a really bad effect on him. He dosnt come home from school for days at a time. This generally results in either his father or myself having to "retrieve" him from the school at the end of the day. He is smoking, when neither his father or I do. There is even rumours of him taking drugs.
I feel that I am losing "grip" of my son at this point. No punishment seems to be effecting him, and the attitude and disrespect that both I and his father receive from him is very unwarrented. It is hard work.
Society blame parents when there are teens going out of hand. I can tell you from first hand experience that it isn't always the parents. Both thier father and I have tried to provide for our kids in a loving and understanding way. I am not saying that we have always been right. I think that being a parent is a living lesson.. one that continues with each child as they are all very different. But I will object strongly next time I hear "I blame the parents"
I guess this is just a sound off.. my son didnt come home from school again tonight. The 4th time this month...

I'm really sorry Aiders.
I must admit, sometimes I think the parents are to blame, especially when you meet some of the parents around here! But I know this isn't always the case - kids rebel from all kinds of backgrounds, and the fact that other kids from the same family don't rebel at all (like in my family) shows that it's not the parenting that's at fault.
Take comfort from the fact that the creator of the family unit had sons that rebelled too, and He is the perfect parent.
